Privacy Policy

What Vicin collects, why we need it, and what you can do about it. Written to be read, not skimmed past.

Effective 1 September 2026. Version 1.0.

Hangzhou Weiyu Technology Co., Ltd. ("Vicin", "we", "us") operates the Vicin mobile app, web app and this website (together, the "Service"). This Policy sets out the personal information we handle and the choices that stay with you. Using the Service means you accept it; if any part of it doesn't sit right with you, please stop using the Service.

In one paragraph We take what it takes to put people near you on your screen and to keep the Service safe. We do not sell personal information to anyone. Everything you have given us can be exported or deleted from inside the app, at any time, without asking us first.

What we collect

Information reaches us three ways: you type it in, the app measures it as you use the Service, or a third party passes it to us.

Things you hand us

  • Account details: your first name, date of birth, gender, an email address or phone number, and a password.
  • Profile content: photos, prompt answers, interests, what you're here for (dating, friends, or both), and anything else you choose to put on your card.
  • Verification recording: a short live selfie clip, compared once against your uploaded photos. The clip is discarded after the comparison; only the pass or fail is stored.
  • Conversations: the messages and voice notes you send to other people through the Service.
  • Preferences: radius, age range, intent, notification and visibility settings.
  • Support threads: what you write to us and what we write back.

Things measured automatically

  • Device signals: model, operating system version, language, time zone, mobile carrier, app build, advertising identifier where one exists, a device identifier such as the Android ID (SSAID), and the User-Agent string your device sends.
  • Product usage: screens opened, features tapped, swipes, matches, session lengths, crashes and performance traces.
  • Location: with your permission, we read your device's approximate and/or precise position from GPS, network or other sensors. The default is coarse — city or neighbourhood level — and it is used to rank people near you, display a rounded distance between two users, serve region-appropriate content, and detect fraud. Precise position is read only while the app is in the foreground and only if you switch on "Right now". The permission is entirely optional: pick a city manually instead, and revoke the permission from your device settings at any time, at which point we stop collecting device location altogether.
  • Cookies and local storage: on the web we set cookies for sign-in and analytics. The mobile app uses the platform equivalents.

Things other companies tell us

  • Sign-in providers: if you continue with Apple, Google or Facebook, we receive your name, email address, avatar, and whatever basic profile fields you approved.
  • App stores: Apple and Google process every payment. We are told the plan, the subscription identifier and whether it is active — never your card.
  • Verification partner: returns a pass or fail. Your selfie recording is not shared with us.
  • Other users: if somebody reports you, we receive the report and the context attached to it.

Why we use it

Every use below is one we can point to a reason for:

  • Creating your account and rendering your profile.
  • Ranking and showing people inside the radius you set, according to your preferences.
  • Running the features themselves — the deck, matches, chat, voice notes, distance.
  • Confirming identity and catching impersonation, fraud and rule-breaking.
  • Recognising your device via identifiers such as the Android ID and User-Agent, so that banned accounts cannot simply come back and so your login stays secure.
  • Sending transactional notifications: a new match, a new message, a security alert.
  • Answering your support requests.
  • Diagnosing crashes, fixing defects and measuring whether a change helped.
  • Meeting legal obligations and responding to lawful requests.

We do not sell personal information to advertisers or data brokers, and we do not feed the Android ID or any other non-resettable device identifier into advertising or ad measurement.

Who sees it

Other people on Vicin

They see exactly what you put on your card — photos, first name, age, prompts — plus a rounded distance such as "0.6 mi away". They never see your precise position, your surname, your phone number or your email address.

Companies working for us

Running the Service takes vendors. Each is under a written contract that forbids using your data for anything except the job we hired them for:

  • Cloud hosting and object storage
  • Push delivery (Apple Push Notification service, Firebase Cloud Messaging)
  • Email and SMS delivery
  • Identity verification
  • Analytics and crash reporting
  • Customer support tooling

When the law asks

We may disclose personal information where a law, court order or valid government request requires it, or where it is needed to protect the rights, property or safety of Vicin, our users, or the public.

If the company changes hands

Should Vicin be acquired, merged or reorganised, your information may move to the new owner. You will be told before that happens and given the chance to delete your account first.

How long we keep it

  • While your account lives: we keep your data for as long as the account is open.
  • After you delete: profile, photos and messages are erased or anonymised within a reasonable window. A thin layer of account metadata survives a little longer to stop banned users re-registering, then goes too.
  • Backups: copies may linger in encrypted backups for a limited period after deletion before rotating out.
  • Legal holds: some records — transaction receipts, for instance — are kept as long as tax or accounting law requires.

Controls in the app

  • Edit your profile from Settings → Profile, whenever you like.
  • Switch location off in your device's permission screen, or set a city by hand in the app. We stop reading device location at once; only the features that depend on it — nearby ranking, live distance — go quiet.
  • Tune notifications in Settings → Notifications.
  • Leave marketing email through the unsubscribe link at the foot of every marketing message.
  • Export or delete everything from Settings → Account. Deletion does not require you to email us.

Your legal rights

Depending on where you live, you may be entitled to:

  • Access a copy of what we hold about you.
  • Correct anything inaccurate or out of date.
  • Delete your data, subject to narrow legal exceptions.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing (EU, UK and Brazil residents in particular).
  • Withdraw consent where consent is what we relied on.
  • Complain to your national data protection authority.
  • Opt out of any "sale" or "share" of personal information — a right for residents of several US states. We do not sell data, but the switch is there for you regardless.

Write to backend@weiyukeji.shop to use any of these. We reply within 30 days, sooner where your local law sets a shorter clock.

How we secure it

  • Encryption of personal data in transit and at rest.
  • Hashed passwords — the plain text never touches our database.
  • Least-privilege access, so staff reach personal data only where the job demands it.
  • Routine review of infrastructure and security practice.
  • An incident procedure, and notification to affected users without undue delay where a breach occurs and the law requires it.

No system is impregnable. Your part is a strong, unique password that you don't reuse anywhere else.

Adults only

Vicin is for people 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect anything from a minor. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, tell us at backend@weiyukeji.shop and we will remove it immediately. Our approach is set out in full in the Child Safety Policy.

Where it is processed

Your information may be stored and processed in any country where we or our vendors operate, which can be outside the one you live in. Data protection law differs between countries; wherever processing happens, we take reasonable steps to hold it to the standard described here.

Changes to this page

A material change is announced in-app at least 14 days before it takes effect. The effective date at the top of this page always names the live version. Carrying on with the Service after a change means you accept the revised Policy.
